According to some, a dirty colon is where disease begins. A clean healthy colon is at it’s most capable, being able to get rid of waste material and toxins from the body with the highest efficiency.

Eating foods that are rich in fiber is one type. Fiber helps the colon by sweeping waste from the digestive tract and keeping it moist, making it’s job a lot easier. Nuts, fruits, beans and seeds are amongst the best examples.
It is recommended that for a healthy diet, a person in good health should consume between 20 to 35 grams ever day. This is a lot higher than the average diet, which is typically only 10 grams. Eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily and 6 more of grains can provide the required input. A serving can be half a cup of vegetables, fruit cooked cereal, grain or pasta, a cup of green vegetables or a slice of bread.
Green foods, which contain chlorophyll, are also a good option. Chlorophyll helps the colon by helping damaged tissue in the digestive tract to heal and allows the body to get more oxygen and draw out more toxins, helping the cleansing process a great deal. Wheat grass, barley grass and alfalfa are foods with high quantities of chlorophyll.
One crucial part of any diet, and one that can be easily overlooked is the consumption of water. Drinking sufficient quantities of water helps to minimize or eliminate constipation and toxins in the bowl and kidneys. A good rule of thumb is to work out your weight in pounds, half it and drink that figure in ounces. Caffeinated water is to be avoided as it can lead to dehydration. The best time to drink water is between meals or half an hour before eating.
Lastly, foods containing high doses of carbohydrates are another consideration. These add friendly bacteria to the intestines helping the colon do it’s job. Yogurt and fermented foods such as sauerkraut are good examples.
